Jewelry Repair and Restoration.
Thursday, November 25, 2010 at 10:57PM I have been refining my silver and goldsmithing skills for over 40 years, working with all types of jewelry and gem stones using a wide variety of techniques and tools. I work with gold, silver and platinum and sell and set all kinds of stones from turquoise to diamonds.
Among the most common types of repairs I do every day are the following: fixing and rebuilding prongs, soldering broken chains, replacing broken posts on earrings, tightening stones, replacing all kinds of clasps, and sizing rings up or down.
The newest addition to my workshop is a powerful Trumph laser welding machine. With this unit, working though a built-in microscope, I manipulate a tiny laser beam to work with metals in ways that were impossible before. For instance, I can apply heat to fix the break in a prong right next to a heat sensitive stone like an emerald without damaging the stone or other structures around it.
The laser welder is the perfect tool for rebuilding delicate pieces of antique and heirloom jewelry safely and effectively, and doing the work right on the premises. Stop by and talk to me, Larry, about any special repair or restoration work you might be interested in having done. By the way, that's not me sitting at the machine!
